A major focus of my work is to facilitate trainings and other forums to educate law enforcement about best practices for lineup procedures and recording interrogations. The most successful trainings involve law enforcement leadership and input. Collaborating over the years with a range of law enforcement officials has deepened my understanding of their work and has helped me to better think through our policy recommendations to assure smooth implementation. After all, they possess credibility in their communities and can help us learn about — and respond to — the practical concerns that law enforcement have. Earning their appreciation for the value of reform is the key to successful realization of our recommended police practice reforms. It’s difficult to achieve any sort of reform in the criminal justice realm, so I feel lucky to work for an organization that is well-positioned to effect meaningful change.
