Q. What is the Innocence Project’s relationship with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law?

A. The Innocence Project was founded at Cardozo School of Law and housed there until becoming an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2004. The relationship between the two institutions remains strong. Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck is a professor at Cardozo, and Co-Director Peter Neufeld, along with the Innocence Project staff attorneys, are all members of the adjunct faculty. Each year, approximately 20 students work under the supervision of the Innocence Project’s Staff Attorneys and Co-Directors, assisting with drafting motions for DNA testing, fact development and investigations. The work of the students is critical to the Innocence Project’s ability to represent our clients.
