U.S. Supreme Court denies hearing for Troy Davis

The U.S. Supreme Court today declined to hear an appeal in the case of Troy Davis, who has beenon Georgia's death row for nearly two decades for a murder he says he didn't commit.
A divided Georgia Supreme Court twice rejected his request for a new trial, and the pardons board turned down his bid for clemency last month after considering the case again.But the Supreme Court stay was only valid until the justices decided whether to hear arguments in the case. Today's decision clears the way for Georgia officials to set a new execution date for Davis.
Two hours before Davis' scheduled Sept. 23 execution, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the stay, sparking a celebration among Davis supporters.
