North Carolina considers independent crime lab management, the Ninth Circuit rules that laptops can be searched for forensic evidence without a warrant and the death of a grey wolf gets investigated through forensics.  Here’s a roundup of forensics news:

North Carolina legislators introduced a bill to would remove North Carolina's top crime lab from the control of the State Bureau of Investigation and create a separate, autonomous entity that reports directly to the attorney general.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rules that, for forensic inspection, laptops can be seized at the border without a warrant.

Backlogs become a problem with digital forensic evidence.
