At a press conference and documentary screening today in Seattle, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter will call for justice for two men who say they are in a Washington prison for murders they didn’t commit. Carter is a former professional boxer who spent two decades in New Jersey prison for three murders he didn’t commit.
The press conference is set for 11:30 a.m. PST at the University of Washington School of Law. Speakers include Carter, Greg Hampikian, the director of the Idaho Innocence Project, filmmaker Tiffany Burns and a representative of the Innocence Project Northwest Student Chapter.
At 7 p.m. PST, the group will screen “Mr. Big,” Tiffany Burns’ documentary about questionable investigation tactics used by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that advocates say led to the false confessions of Atif Rafay and Sebastian Burns.
After the press conference, Carter plans to visit Rafay in prison.
