IT Support Technician (Part-Time, temp)

The Innocence Project is a not-for-profit organization that works to exonerate innocent prisoners through post-conviction DNA testing, and to develop and implement policy changes to prevent wrongful convictions and otherwise reform the criminal justice system. We are seeking a part-time IT Support Technician to provide support while our Database Administrator is on maternity leave. The position is needed for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of continuation dependent upon budgeting and need. This is a great entry-level opportunity for someone interested in gaining professional experience while working for an important organization.
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary support contact for workstation assistance, diagnosing and resolving device and network problems, including issues with desktops, laptops, printers, and scanners running on Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OS X
  • Monitor and manage the help desk tracking system (Zendesk) including escalation of issues as needed
  • Manage the deployment of new desktops, laptops, software, and peripherals
  • Assist with OS updates, software upgrades or installs
  • Provide secondary support for our case management database, video and audio conferencing, server administration (Windows 2003/2008 Server and Linux), and networking
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of IT documentation
  • User trainings on hardware/software

Requirements:

  • 1 year experience in an IT-related position, or equivalent education
  • A demonstrated passion for technology and the ability to quickly learn new systems, software, and processes
  • Proficiency with common desktop applications such as web browsers and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to respond in a timely fashion to phone calls and email messages for support
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse user population, determining their support needs and helping non-technical users to understand complex technology issues.
  • Experience building and maintaining databases and database applications
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teams and with different types of personalities
  • Interest in issues of human rights and justice, specifically the work of the Innocence Project
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor

Additional Qualifications considered a plus:

  • Basic web development using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Experience with a variety of desktop and server operating systems
  • Hardware repair of desktops, laptops, and printers
  • Support of remote users via phone and remote support tools
  • Building and managing reports in Crystal Reports
