Q. How many of the exonerees had criminal records before the wrongful conviction?

A. We don’t know the exact number, but we do know that the vast majority of exonerees did not have significant criminal histories before they were wrongfully convicted; many of them had no criminal record at all, and most of those who did have criminal records were involved in petty crimes or were suspected of minor crimes but never charged or convicted.
