Friday Roundup: Misidentification and Overzealous Prosecution

A five-part series this week in the Cleveland Plain Dealer points to hundreds of cases where Cleveland prosecutors brought criminal charges based on little or no evidence.

Stephen Brodie was cleared last year, more than 20 years after he was convicted of a child rape evidence now shows he didn’t commit. The Dallas Morning News reported this week on the charges facing the alleged real perpetrator in the case.

The Florida Innocence Commission met in Tampa on Monday and heard testimony from eyewitness identification expert Gary Wells.

Death row exoneree Kirk Bloodsworth will join other exonerees Tuesday at a panel discussion in Springfield, Illinois. The Illinois legislature is currently considering a bill to end capital punishment in the state.
