Exoneree Band Performs in Salt Lake City

This Sunday, exoneree musicians Antoine Day, Bill Dillon, Eddie Lowery, Darby Tillis and Raymond Towler (pictured) will perform at a benefit in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center. All five musicians served a combined total of 87 years in prison for crimes they did not commit. While they were imprisoned, music remained a vital part of their lives, some had even aspired to be professional musicians prior to incarceration.
Speaking to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Towler says, “Music was an escape, a source of freedom. It kept me sane. I would just close my eyes and go anywhere I wanted.” Although the five are separated by physical distance (spread across the country in Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio and Missouri) their shared experiences create a unique camaraderie. Says Towler, “We kind of clicked. We could relate to one another. We all have a common history.”
The Rocky Mountain Innocence Center works to prevent and correct wrongful convictions in Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada.
