Policy Legal Intern

The Innocence Project is a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to avoid future injustice.
 
The Innocence Project’s Policy Department takes the lessons learned from wrongful convictions and promotes procedural and policy reforms that can prevent their recurrence. To this end, the department implements national and state-based campaigns to change the criminal justice system. It also scrutinizes current procedures, protocols, policies and practices across the nation, researches best practices rooted in scientific research and creates model legislation.

The Innocence Project is seeking a law student for the fall 2009 Legal intern for the Policy Department.  The Policy-Legal Intern will report to the Policy Advocate and Forensic Policy Associate.

Time Commitment:

The Policy-Legal Intern should be available for approx. 10 - 20 hours per week from 09/2009 to 12/2009.

Responsibilities:

• Researching cases in all 50 states where forensic evidence was involved
• Researching and filing of relevant media pieces
• Researching current caselaw in each state regarding admissibility of Eyewitness Identification expert testimony, admissibility of Eyewitness Identification evidence and Eyewitness Identification jury instructions
• Ad hoc projects
• Performing research to assist in state-level advocacy campaigns

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in law school
• Proficiency with WestLaw
• Experienced in researching media articles and case law.
